Make a Splash | Digital Scrapbooking Classics

Hooray for summer! It’s summertime in my neck of the woods, and I couldn’t be happier! I love everything about it: the break from school (which means more time for my favorite hobby – digital scrapbooking, of course!), the summer sun and heat, and the visits to local pools and waterparks for cooling off. I know I’ll take lots of photos at the pool and even in my own yard when we water the lawn and the neighborhood kids run through the sprinklers. Chelle’s Creations has the perfect kit for my photos – the classic Make A Splash. Chelle’s Creative Team members have been playing with this kit and have made some layouts to inspire you.

First, Ronnie had some older photos she hadn’t scrapped yet, and Chelle’s kit was her first choice for them. The bright colors of the kit match the bright colors of the swimsuits and water perfectly. I love the large photo filling half the page and the journal notes on top of the dark parts of the photo. BIG PHOTO

Next, Shannon used the kit to scrap pictures of her daughter playing in the ocean waves. Notice how she used the word art with the water splashes to make part of her title – a helpful way to mix two alphas on a page. I love the water splash added behind the photos, too. 6-makeasplashShannon

Finally, Patty had some photos of a particular “struggle” for control of the sprinkler in the garden. Look familiar? It sure does to me! I love that she has used this kit for this subject and that she has the background papers arranged in a starburst pattern with the splash embellishments all around the border.  Patty_MakeASplash

Time for me to go outside and tend to my flowers with a little water. Maybe I’ll take my camera, too, and get this kit ready to go for a page for today. Come join me in the fun!

6.2 Military Playdate

Hey Everybody! Chelle’s Aunt Sari here. Chelle has simply outdone herself with the Military Bundle. It’s HUGE and very appropriate this time of year. She has the bundle broken down into Anchors Aweigh (Navy), Rolling Along (Army), & Wild Blue Yonder (Air Force). Are they not the BEST names ever? I’ve been humming, tapping my toes, tapping my fingers, boppin’ my head, singing songs in my head all week to the great imagery Chelle did with the military marches or songs? LOL!! Sure wish I’d lost some weight this week with all that exercise. Smirk! Like that’s ever worked for me! Don’t get me started on all the patriotic songs and marches. I’m in HEAVEN! There’s some great sales going on and the Fireworks FWP Kit is so stinkin’ cute, you’ll wish you had sparklers and pop-its all year round! Let’s get started with all those goodies!

First, the Military Bundle!

Want MORE? How about the individual branches of the US Military…. The US Air Force Kit aka Wild Blue Yonder?

The 2 new YOUTUBE Classes Chelle has available to you for the remarkable price of nothin’! That’s right, there are FREE on her You Tube Channel. Class #1 “Stretch Your Stash – Alphas” and Class #2 “Creating Shortcuts In Photoshop.” If you haven’t been there, you really need to get hooked up, so here’s a link to the Chelle’s Creations Channel.

Want even MORE? Learn more about Photoshop Class Designer Essentials, Chelle’s offering a live class this summer.  Skins? Today I saw her IPhone skin. They are to die for. Check them out for sure! I want one and I don’t even have an IPhone. Hee Hee!

Now for the FAV LO of the Week. I’m really partial to my very first ever digital scrapbook page. It’s of my Uncle Boyce Pitcher, Chelle’s Great Uncle. He served in WWII in the Navy and joined the Navy Choir. He had a beautiful singing voice and also played the organ. I have the advantage of Chelle being close and I have to give her much of the credit. We talked about what would work and then she “taught” me how to do it. I”ll have to play again soon so I can remember what I’ve learned. I’ve put the Creative Team’s LOs in with the kit abbreviations for them. They are just completely beautiful. Not a term used with the military much, but I love the fact that they are all so different: from movies, to green army figurine toys, to parachutes, or museums. I think you’ll be surprised at all the ideas that will bounce from the images. Once again, Ladies! I SALUTE (LOL) you all as well as the US Military – those passed and present! Thank You!!!

Hugs! Until next week…

Perfect Pairs: Family Tree & Traveler | Digital Scrapbooking Kit Combinations

6/4 Still Aunt Sari…. but I forgot to add 3 of the LO’s from the Creative Team for this blog post.  It was my 45th birthday and I’m planning on using that as my excuse. So, trying again….. Jenn J is up first. I love the string and gear clusters and all the colors of fabric. The background paper makes me think of “Sunday” suits my Mom used to make for my Dad in the late 70s. Looks just like polyester gabardine. Adore the label and the ledger paper.

Kariyn just knocked my socks off. I really need to get on her vacation schedule. The imigrey is beautiful and well, they tell the whole story of that Sunset. Love the Sunset Tag and placement of the butterfly.

_____________

Hi Aunt Sari here. I can’t imagine a better match than these 2 designs by Chelle.  Every one of us eventually came from another city, shire, parrish, state, province, or country. My family tree goes back to England. On my Father’s side of the family, my 4th great grandparents (Chelle’s 5th) 12 of the 16 ancestors came from England. 2 came from Denmark, and 2 from Scotland. On my Mother’s side, 10 of the 16 4th great grandparents were born in England, Leaving 6 born in the USA.

Family History is such a strong part of my life. Chelle’s too. A few years ago for Christmas, Chelle and her Mom purchased histories from the DUP, Daughters Of Utah Pioneers. There’s also a SUP, Sons of Utah Pioneers. Chelle combined and abridged them and made each of her Aunts & Uncle’s a copy of the those merged histories. I love to read them and learn something different each time I do. I’ve also typed histories from some of the ancestor’s. I’ve a scanned copy of Great Grandma Cummings application to the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. What organizations have your ancestor’s been a part of that you could scrap?

We’ve been blessed to have pictures of 24 of the 32 great-grandparents of my 4th & Chelle’s 5th generation and some from my 5th & Chelle’s 6th great grandparents, we have 5 of 64. I can’t imagine the bravery it took to leave their home and country and migrate to America.

  • 3rd Great Grandma Thornley crossed the plains by walking and ended up with severe frostbite and couldn’t really walk any longer, so her daughter took care of her.
  • Some traveled by steam ships up the Mississippi and then walked across the plains.
  • Some traveled by steam engine trains. The train moved so slowly, the men would get off the train and pick up sagebrush to feed the steam engine. They could easily keep up with the train.
  • 4th Great Grandpa Larsen worked on a ship. His wife died and neighbor’s joined our church and migrated to America. They hadn’t heard from Lars and assumed he had died at sea. It was many years before he and 3rd Great Grandma Christina saw each other.
  • 5th Great Grandpa Cummings was the flag-bearer in the the Mormon Battallion and his son rode for the Pony Express.
  • 4th Great Grandmother Jessop said if she could just get to Utah all would be well. She died just 2 days after arriving in Utah.
  • Some worked in milk barns in England, one was a pugilist, one did tours of Africa, some lost jobs because they chose to join our church.
  • 4th Great Grandfather Thompson migrated to work as a silversmith in Providence, Rhode Island.
  • Almost all of them faced potential Indian troubles when they arrived in Cache Valley, Utah; and lived in Fort’s in their town until it became safe enough to build small log homes.

I think often of those pioneers and Memorial Day has a soft place in my heart because of them. I hope this post will inspire you to scrap those family history stories before they are forgotten.

Here are some layouts on Traveler from the Creative Team. Carol did a super pictorial of her trip. I love the gear & clock borders. Isn’t that street sign yummy? The cathedral is really impressive and the flowers provide a “pop” of color on the page.

Jenn J. provided this example. I love the use of the striped paper, the clusters and how the gears appear next to the “tower.” She did a great job of allowing the paper to separate the sides of the layout.

Ronnie provided this example. How can you not love the clock stamps in the background and the use of the strings. Doesn’t the bracket look good and as if it’s embedded in the book? Very imaginative!

Karen S is my queen for the day! Her LO includes both Family Tree and Traveler. I love the ledger paper with the shading. At the bottom instead of “holes” I almost see “pearl brads.” Maybe I’m fanciful — or more likely–my glasses are dirty! Love the flowers and clusters. Great Job Karen!

Now on to some favorite layouts for Family Tree. They are all so different and I think you could easily add traveler to them. Love how different the styles and compositions are. First is Ophelia. Isn’t the transition from the larger picture down to the lower picture just priceless. The strings, the brackets… Oh my!

Next is Heather. She speaks of her ancestry and how they got started at her father’s Shiva. She also watched NBC’s “Who Do You Think You Are?” That’s one of my favorite shows also. It’s interesting the paths our families take to get us where we are today.

Finally a LO from Roxana. I like the way she used the different elements and inserted so many pictures of her family. I adore the Rose cluster with bling!  Great pics of her hubby and son. That little guy looks like he is having so much fun during the picture taking! Super Job!

Last, here are Chelle’s products that are used in the layouts. See for yourself how well these 2 kits can merge together and bring those memories together.

5.26 iOnline Playdate… Want MORE?

Hello Friends! Chelle’s Aunt Sari here for the weekly playdate. Chelle took a bit of holiday this week. She’s been very busy with the last week of school. She provided a fantastic freebie called iOnline available on her blog as a big THANK YOU to all her friends that live in her computer. I am sure we can all relate. I’ve only been involved for 5 months and I jump online as soon as I’m home from work to see what’s been happening with everyone else that day. Chelle’s creative team is also enjoying the week off, but some of our team did complete an iOline LO. I have to say Carol amazed me this week by inserting her granddaughter’s “Leapster” games into her LO. I also loved the honesty of Jenn J’s LO. I think we all understand the sentiment.

Want MORE? In our newsletters this week, Chelle provided a couple of new training classes on her YouTube Channel. The first is on using Torn Paper Edges in our everyday scrapbooking lives. Don’t let the “CU” scare you away. You CAN do this.  Watch the video and see how easy it can be. Chelle has a sampler so you can try it out and then the link to the store for the whole package.

On Sunday afternoons, everyone in the family always went to Grandma Pitcher’s house. (my grandmother, Chelle’s great grandmother) Gram had this large room in the back of her house with a built-in armoire that had drawers and doors you could pull open. Oh the JOY! She had yarn and crochet cotton and quilt blocks. We could play for hours. Unfortunately we always got yarn tangled with crochet cotton. Even though we were always careful, the younger kids always wanted to play too.  To help you create untangled strings in your designs, Chelle created a class on her YouTube Channel so you can tie up all your loose ends.

Chelle repackaged 4 of her CU String products into a CU String Bundle that’s almost $10 off. “Snag” this bundle while you can!!
Want even MORE? Chelle has a great class on Photoshop in the market. If you want to be a pro check it out!
See you next week!

Kick it! | Digital Scrapbooking Classics

Hello, Chelle’s Creations fans! That title “Kick it!” is not a command for you to take out your aggression on your computer that’s lagging, but rather it’s the title of one of Chelle’s classic digital scrapbooking kits with a soccer theme. The parts and pieces come in 8 different colors, so it should be easy to match it to all your team colors. But, even if you aren’t a fútbol fan, this kit is very versatile and could be used for a variety of layouts.

Let’s take a look at some pages the Creative Team has made. First, Carol had some terrific pictures of her little guy playing soccer. Look at his enthusiastic expression! And, I love that cluster of the soccer ball and buttons on top of the ric rac wrapping the page. CarolJ_kickIt

Here’s a page you might have seen before. Kairyn used some of the blues in the kit to make her page about a soccer game, and I love how she used the photos in circle shapes. I also like how she colored the silhouette to match her background.

Jenn took a different approach and used the greens in the kit to scrap a St. Patrick’s Day layout. She also used one of Chelle’s new In the Pocket templates. She used one of the full size square templates but made it smaller to create pockets on her page, and it gives the page a very tactile look. SOCCKickItPocketsPeaGfndNoodSt-LJennM

Let’s take a closer look at the kit in the store. The image is linked to the kit at Scrap Orchard. cc_kickit_preview_2post And, here’s a look at the team colors included free in the kit. cc_kickit_YTC_preview_2post Have you scrapped a page today? If not, maybe you can pick up this kit and kick a layout into shape.

Gallery Standouts | Digital Scrapbooking Inspiration

Hi, Chelle’s Aunt Sari again. Today I’m doing a gallery stand out about Grandma’s Garden and in particular her fruits. When I think of Grandma’s fruits, I think Strawberry Freezer Jam using  M&C Premium Pectin and this recipe. We would make Strawberry Jam every year. Kairyn kindly provides a beautiful 2-page LO of her children picking strawberries. I love the “vine” in the background paper and the way she coiled the string around. Squares on one page and circles on the other. They sure make pickin’ berries look a lot more fun than I remember.

Every few years, it would be our turn to get Grandma Pearl’s (Chelle’s Great Grandma)Black Cap Raspberry harvest. On summer mornings, we’d throw on a yucky old T-shirt, a long-sleeved flannel shirt, and a ball cap. No one wore flip flops, they didn’t provide enough protection. Next we’d  snag a belt & a plastic ice-cream bucket. We were very cute and the picture of young womanhood! Cameras were not allowed! The belt went through the handle on the ice cream bucket so we could pick with both hands. (That’s a laugh) The ball caps and flannel shirts were are only defense from those horrible thorns! It didn’t matter how carefully you picked, you ALWAYS left the garden scratched up and with thorn punctures on your hands. Black caps have a darker, more intense, sweet taste than a regular raspberry and are my favorite fruit. I remember Grandma Pearl having her Fruit Juice Steamer going on the stove making Black Cap Jelly when we’d take the newly harvested berries inside for her. I can still taste the freshly baked bread, slathered with melting butter and that yummy burst of that sugary-sweet berry in the first bite. Or newly made pancakes with black cap syrup dripping down the sides. Is there any doubt why I’m diabetic? [HeeHee, so was my Dad and his mother, Grandma Pearl!]  If you ever have the chance, you should definitely try them. On the funny side, Grandma had many bottles of black cap jelly in her storage room in the basement and when she passed, we’re pretty sure they’d turned to Black Cap wine. LOL
As I looked through different LOs, I couldn’t resist this one provided by Janine. She tied in the shrubbery with the lovely basket with her daughter. I love the texture of the blanket next to the shrubs. I remember many shrubs in both of my grandmother’s gardens… AND how we tore them up playing hide n seek on Sunday nights.

Janine

Roxana then provides a glimpse of every Grandma’s dream, a grandson who like to climb ladders & help in the garden. Notice the border made of different “scraps” of fabric. They’d make a great topper for a jar of preserves.

Roxana

I hope you all enjoyed this look at Grandma’s Fruits! Here are Chelle’s products that work with my stories and ideas.

Until next post, have a happy day!

5.19 Grad, Main, & CU Scroll/Banner Template Playdate

Hello Friends! Chelle’s Aunt Sari again. It’s that time of year, isn’t it? Time to start planning for summer vacations and graduations. When I looked at Chelle’s Grad kit, my thoughts flew backward to my own graduation. Duh, Duh-Duh-Duh, Duh-Duh. Can you hear the graduation march? (Pomp & Circumstance) Isn’t it funny what our minds hook us up with? I used to work at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. They had an outdoor speaker system installed on several buildings/poles and they played Pomp and Circumstance over the loudspeakers for a couple of weeks before graduation every year. It always made me walk slower and more stately around campus! LOL The Word Art is wonderful, isn’t it? They just spark the imagination. My favorite is the “The Tassel Worth The Hassle.”  Graduation is packed with everything you need for commencements from preschool to college. I’ve got some more ideas from the Creative Team below. Make sure you check them out!Strolling down an old-fashioned Main Street, taking in all the wonders…the lights, the aroma, the anticipation.  You’ve finally arrived!  Scrap your Main Street Memories–including that family photo in front of the train station–with Main Street Mini.  Hints of yesteryear grace these papers & elements in those good-old-days colors, adding a sense of charm & warmth to your recollections. Love the clock and striped awning. It makes me think of an old-fashioned bakery, a small-town fabric & notions store, a barber shop, and hand-dipped chocolates. If your ever in Brigham City, Utah, take the opportunity to visit the Idle Isle Cafe or the Bluebird Cafe & Chocolate Factory in Logan, Utah. They’re the embodiment of this beautiful kit.Add trendy banners in a classic style with CU Scrolls & Banners.  Includes layered masks & doodle outlines. Most include doodled stitches.  Just add your papers & colors.  Layer with circles & squares for vintage-ad-style elements.  This tride-and-true concept will become a staple in your CU collection. And now for my favorite LO of the week. Check out Karen S’s Main Street LO of San Francisco. Karen, it’s simply amazing. I love the stair-stepped victorian homes. It caught my attention immediately. Wowser!

Unlikely Pairs: Bedrock Alpha & Under Construction & Vrooom | Digital Scrapbooking Kit Combinations

Hi scrappers! Sari here looking at some unlikely pairs. Chelle’s Bedrock Alpha combined with Vrooom and Under Construction. First up, is Melissa B aka Pretty Peaches, who did a really creative cluster using Chelle’s Vrooom! kit. I like the use of the binder clamps and construction signs she uses to convey her son’s love of his truck. ‘m loving the key remote and the use of the string with the staple. Do you just love Dylan’s face in the top picture, you can almost “hear” him revving his lips to let the ‘vrooom!’ out. Great job Melissa!
Next up is Mel aka kscroppychic. She used Under Construction to show us how excited her son was to receive his own tools. Love the border on the bottom made out of so many different “pages” and cluster at the top of the page. You’d never know that “Bedrock Alpha” wasn’t part of the Under Construction Kit. I absolutely love the recolored hexagon paper to match her theme. I have the advantage of knowing kits the CT is using and I still have to go back and look because the LOs are so AMAZING! Here are Chelle’s kits that Melissa and Mel used:

5.12 Pockets Full Of Fun Playdate

Hello Everyone! How’s your Mother’s Day Weekend going? Well, I hope. Yesterday I was working on some things for Chelle and started thinking about my parents. Duh, realized it was the first Mother’s Day since my mother (Chelle’s Grandma Nola) had died. Had myself a good cry and now I’m celebrating all the other Mom’s in my life. Chelle came up with totally awesome products this week. Pockets for LO’s. Let’s run through the list of new stuff: First, we have In The Pocket Bundle, & the  FWP is In The Pocket: Pages,. You can also purchase them individually as In The Pocket: Small, or In The Pocket: Squares. Another new product is the fabulous Ledger Essentials E-Book which comes with CU Layered Ledgers, or you can purchase just the CU Layered Ledgers.

Wowsers! Did you hear the news? Chelle’s now has an option for Ipad & Iphone skins and she tells me Android skins will be coming soon. (Did you see the picture above?) Father’s Day is just around the corner. Hint! Hint! Wouldn’t DH enjoy a skin for his smart technology? And now for the AWESOME layouts the Creative Team came up with. I know they’ll spark your imaginations!

Back 2 School | DIgital Scrapbooking Classics

It’s graduation time! Hooray for the end of a school year and the beginning of new opportunities! I have just returned from my daughter’s college graduation, and I have begun the process of editing my photos from the big event because I really need to use my digital scrapbooking skills to show my love to her. My daughter even lamented the fact that she has lots of photos on social media sites but very few photos in print, so I am going to help her remedy that situation. I am looking at Chelle’s Back2School kit to help me with that project. It’s one of her classics, and although you might think of it for the beginning of school, I think it will be perfect for graduation photos, as well. Roxana thought so, too, and she made this marvelous double page spread of her child’s kindergarten graduation. I love that school bus and the different alphas used for the large title. The various buttons and clips used to “stick” the journal strips to the page really emphasize that this indeed was a tactile learning environment, full of wonderful memories.42-43-graduation-webRoxana

Melissa used the kit to commemorate her son’s 2nd grade year in school. The cluster of school elements – the locker, ruler, pencil, composition notebook, and backpack  – are appropriate here for a young child but would also work on a page for a high school student, as well. Look at his sweet smile! Grade-2Melissa

The primary colors in the kit make it coordinate with many of our daily pictures as well as school photos. Karen made a beautiful page about her cat Reggie, and the bright, bold colors make me think of many happy times I’m sure she had with her fur baby. Her large photo blend on the grid paper is outstanding, and the cluster of paper pieces under the smaller photo draw my eye to his sweet, peaceful face. Reggie2Karen

Here’s a closer look at the kit in the market (the image is linked to the store): cc_back2school_preview_2_post

Now, I need to get busy scrapping some memories of my daughter’s graduation. See you back here soon!
