Hello Friends!

This week I challenged our creative team to combine O Holy Night & Graduation and then make a digital scrapbooking layout. When I look at these 2 kits, I don’t see a merge very easily. See what I mean…. (just look at them)

Now let me show you what the ladies’ came up with. Teresa used these 2 fine kits for her son’s graduation in 2009.

Next, Karen used them to create her graduation layout. Love those faded out stars.

Karen

Next, Tammy created her graduation layout with that time-honored question, “You just graduated from Kindergarten, Where do you want to go now? {Love the humor.}

Tammy

Next, Krista’s use of the two kits tugs at my heart. A lovely use of the 2 kits. Angel.

Last, Carol used the 2 kits for this graduation layout. Love the use of  the grasses and the cluster she created.

Isn’t it enjoyable to see how differently we each would combine 2 kits for one layout? Show me what you would do. Post it in the gallery. I look every week to see what’s newly posted.

6.27 Scrap Skills: Weaving elements

Hi friends! Cheryl here. I hope you’ve been following the digital scrapbooking tutorial videos Chelle makes from time to time. You can find them all on her YouTube channel, and they are all very helpful. I have learned everything from basic to advanced techniques from her. In fact, today, I would like to focus on two of her videos regarding weaving elements.

The first one called Linking Charms was released when her Graduation kit hit the market. The kit includes a sheet of year medallions that can be cut apart and attached to the tassels in the kit to personalize any graduation page you might be creating. Her video describes precisely how to accomplish that and make your shadows look realistic. It’s the best I’ve seen at describing how to do this. Chelle’s shadowing techniques are outstanding.

The second video I want to highlight is Weaving String Through Eyelets. If you’ve ever seen scrapbook pages in the galleries with string weaving in and out of banner shapes, looking very three dimensional, and wondered how they did that, then this is the video for you. But, even if you know how to do this already, I would encourage you to watch Chelle’s video because you might be surprised by what you could learn. For example, in this video, Chelle has a screen shot of her eyelets she created from simple, flat donut shapes with all her favorite effects layered with it. It isn’t the focus of the video, but it had some very helpful information for me!

Chelle’s creative team members often use this weaving technique on their pages. Cara had a gorgeous photo of a sunset at the lake she wanted to highlight on a page. She used a string element to weave in and out of the letters in the title. The effect of the weaving really adds to the title and is more interesting than merely having the string placed underneath the letters.Carathe-lakeOphelia also used this technique on her page. She wove the string in and around the frames on her page, and again, it adds more interest than simple layering. Ophelia2010-08-07-footballpractice_sm Finally, Kairyn made a double page layout and used this same weaving idea, but I want to show you each side of the layout individually to aid in viewing. On the left side (the first one you see), she used the red cord to weave around her title alpha, and on the right side, the same element is woven around the flowers. That curly cord is practically begging to be woven like she did, don’t you think? It’s a subtle detail, but it makes a large impact in the realism of each page. Did you know you can subscribe to Chelle’s YouTube channel? When you are looking at one of her vidoes on YouTube, there is a tab above the video that says, “Subscribe.” Click on that, and you can be the first to know when she adds a new tutorial.

6.26 Perfect Pairs: Back 2 School & Graduation | Digital Scrapbooking Kit Combinations

Hi! Chelle’s Aunt Sari here to show you how well Back 2 School & Graduation work together!   First Up, Karen gives us a wonderful picture of her son who won the President’s Award in 5th grade. She used an alpha & paint from Chelle’s Rainbow Collection. What a handsome boy and he looks so excited!Next we have Patty, What a great idea! The “grey” space really draws your attention to the elements in the picture. Isn’t that locker to die for? Love her daughter wearing the Cap with jeans and a tank top.Last we have Shannon showing us a little 5th grade graduation love! Her use of the tassel really draws your eye to the girls pictures. The chalkboard and chalk alpha are a perfect match for the LO.

5.19 Grad, Main, & CU Scroll/Banner Template Playdate

Hello Friends! Chelle’s Aunt Sari again. It’s that time of year, isn’t it? Time to start planning for summer vacations and graduations. When I looked at Chelle’s Grad kit, my thoughts flew backward to my own graduation. Duh, Duh-Duh-Duh, Duh-Duh. Can you hear the graduation march? (Pomp & Circumstance) Isn’t it funny what our minds hook us up with? I used to work at Utah State University in Logan, Utah. They had an outdoor speaker system installed on several buildings/poles and they played Pomp and Circumstance over the loudspeakers for a couple of weeks before graduation every year. It always made me walk slower and more stately around campus! LOL The Word Art is wonderful, isn’t it? They just spark the imagination. My favorite is the “The Tassel Worth The Hassle.”  Graduation is packed with everything you need for commencements from preschool to college. I’ve got some more ideas from the Creative Team below. Make sure you check them out!Strolling down an old-fashioned Main Street, taking in all the wonders…the lights, the aroma, the anticipation.  You’ve finally arrived!  Scrap your Main Street Memories–including that family photo in front of the train station–with Main Street Mini.  Hints of yesteryear grace these papers & elements in those good-old-days colors, adding a sense of charm & warmth to your recollections. Love the clock and striped awning. It makes me think of an old-fashioned bakery, a small-town fabric & notions store, a barber shop, and hand-dipped chocolates. If your ever in Brigham City, Utah, take the opportunity to visit the Idle Isle Cafe or the Bluebird Cafe & Chocolate Factory in Logan, Utah. They’re the embodiment of this beautiful kit.Add trendy banners in a classic style with CU Scrolls & Banners.  Includes layered masks & doodle outlines. Most include doodled stitches.  Just add your papers & colors.  Layer with circles & squares for vintage-ad-style elements.  This tride-and-true concept will become a staple in your CU collection.And now for my favorite LO of the week. Check out Karen S’s Main Street LO of San Francisco. Karen, it’s simply amazing. I love the stair-stepped victorian homes. It caught my attention immediately. Wowser!
